Reno Plastic Surgery Practice on Popularity of Mommy Makeover Procedure
Reno, NV — With the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that more than 325,000 mommy makeover procedures were performed nationally on women ages 20 to 39 last year. Dr. Tiffany McCormack, a plastic surgeon in Reno, NV, says mommy makeovers have been increasing in demand at her practice over the past few years as more patients are looking for cosmetic enhancements that draw out their natural beauty rather than high-profile surgeries. Dr. McCormack says breast augmentation in Reno, as well as other mommy makeover-related procedures, can achieve subtle restoration in women who have recently had children.
At her Reno plastic surgery practice, Dr. McCormack says breast surgery is one of the most common procedures she performs in combination with a mommy makeover. A new trend in cosmetic enhancements, the mommy makeover procedure typically incorporates several breast and body contouring surgeries such as tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast lifts to help women restore their figures to the firm, supple shape they enjoyed before childbirth. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 62% of mothers say they would consider undergoing a mommy makeover procedure if cost were not an issue.
Dr. McCormack says the majority of the patients at her practice come to the office simply wanting to look like themselves again. She says a particularly troublesome area for many women’s appearance following childbirth is their breasts, as breast-feeding and the rigors of pregnancy tend to take a significant toll on the shape and volume of one’s breasts. While there are women who want a higher-profile procedure with a more drastic size increase, Dr. McCormack says many of her patients are looking only to counteract the effects of childbirth on their bodies and enjoy the wonders of motherhood without sacrificing their appearance.
“After pregnancy it is common for the breasts to lose volume and shape. This may occur whether you have breast fed or not. Several patients have said that they were never very big before; however, they are not even able to fill out a bikini top anymore- they feel as though the skin to tissue ratio is reversed meaning that there is too much skin and too little breast tissue left.”
The most recent ASPS statistics show that breast augmentation, the most popular cosmetic surgical enhancement, rose 4% in 2011 to over 307,000 procedures. Dr. McCormack says the surge in demand for breast augmentation over the past few years has helped contribute to the popularity and awareness of mommy makeovers as well. She says she also performs a significant number of breast lifts with implants to help her patients restore perkiness and youth to their figure.
“The majority of my patients are seeking a very natural look whereby they can wear clothes such as tank tops, bikini tops and sun dresses with confidence, yet not appear augmented publicly. A breast augmentation can help restore a more balanced shape. Surprisingly, the size of implant does not always need to be very large to achieve this. Most of my patients are seeking a perkier almost athletic shape that suits their particular frame.”
Whether patients are looking for a comprehensive mommy makeover or a single aesthetic surgical enhancement, Dr. McCormack says plastic surgery, particularly breast augmentation, can help replenish one’s sense of femininity and improve their self-confidence, both essential parts of a woman’s outlook on life. Regardless of the procedure, she urges patients to seek the consultation of an experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon before undergoing any cosmetic procedure.
“My goal is to help a woman restore a natural appearance that is not over the top or obvious so to speak.”
